The 2013 Acura RLX Concept is the new flagship sedan that will replace the Acura RL in the near future. It sports improved dimensions, more dynamic design, modern and practical features, new LED headlights and Acura's new Sport Hybrid SH-AWD that is connected to 3 electric motors.

The Acura RL has been the brand's flagship model since 1996. After 2 generations of failure to break into the full size sedan market Acura has decided not to just replace the model but the model name.

The new model shares similar dimensions with its predecessor. Width, wheelbase and track of the vehicle have both been increased by 50 mm. The front and rear overhangs have been decreased. Overall length remains the same.

The RLX sports new technology with the new 3.5-liter V6 engine with direct-injected VTEC technology that is connected to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission and three electric motors, generating a combined output of more than 370-horsepower. That is 70 more horse power than the previous model even though the previous model was a 3.7L.

More impressive than the power output is the 36 mpg combined fuel economy. What is more impressive is that it's expected to achieve this level of economy in the city and on the highway. Normally the city figures are lower than the highway figures due to the lower speeds and constant stop and go that is expected within city limits.

The RLX also has the following features;

- 14 speaker Ultra Premium Audio System

- AcuraLink with
- built-in cellular communication
- Security alarm notification and stolen vehicle tracking
- Airbag deployment notification
- Pandora and AHA internet radio
- Remote door lock/unlock
- SMS/email capability

- 7 inch On Demand Screen

- Acura Signature Jewel Eye LED headlights

This car will compete with other full size cars such as the

- Audi A8 3.0 TFSI quattro

- Mercedes S350 4MATIC BE

- BMW 740i

- Infiniti M35h

- Lexus LS600h

The A8 and S350 both have 6 cylinder engines and all wheel drive. The 740i and the M35h have 6 cylinder engines and are rear wheel drive. The LS600h and M35h are the only hybrids in the list. The closest competitor is the M35h as it produce the same horsepower but does not have all wheel drive.

Currently Acura is not being sold in Jamaica through a new car dealer. This does not stop customers from importing the car from a dealer overseas. Acura can be sold in Jamaica and would be well supported by customers that are looking to stay with Honda but want to move up from their Accord or CR-V with are currently the brands flagship models in Jamaica. The RLX will be the next step upwards from the Accord and with its hybrid tax it could be around the same price as an entry level Audi, BMW or Mercedes Benz while providing all the luxuries that a full size sedan should provide. the choice could then be between the RLX 3.5L SH-AWD Hybrid, A4 1.8T, 320i and C180.
