The new 2014 BMW will be replacing the current model between May and September 2013. The new shape will also bring with it new technology and new engine options. So the question now is why would you buy the 2013 units that are still in stock?

The 2014 model still uses similar dimensions which means its still a midsize SUV with a 7 seat layout. The X5 still has a very practical appeal even though it still being outsold by the X6 which either carries a 4/5 seater layout. It will be more aerodynamic, more technologically advanced and will be fitted with new engine options. Most important engine options to be added that will affect Jamaican buyers is the possible additions of the 2.0L diesel and petrol engine. These engines can lower price by as much as 20-25% from current full price of 10-11 million dollars. This will probably become the best selling SUV for BMW in 2014 due to the fact that the X5 and the Prado will now have similar prices due to new engine options.

So why buy the 2013 model? This is a good question as no matter how cheap they make it it will still be the old shape in a matter of months and will lose its current appeal very quickly. The reason is the combination of price and features. Currently the X5 is offered with 3.0L petrol and diesel engines and are currently being sold for under $9,000,000. However the diesel engines are Euro 5/6 and have difficulties with the high sulfur diesel that is offered in Jamaica. Th only diesel engines that can manage the diesel content in the premium market is the Land Rover engine. Even Audi has stopped offering diesel engine until the clean diesel is made available. The Mercedes Benz ML250 CDI is currently the least expensive premium market midsize SUV start at just over $8,000,000 with very few optional features. The 2013 X5 matches the price but out does the ML250 by having a 7 seat layout and the 3.0L diesel and petrol engine which both produce more power and return very good mileage.

Autoinfoja would advise new buyers to this market to wait for the new shape as it will hold better value for a longer period of time. However the X5 is still firstly a BMW and secondly a SUV with a very practical layout that will be desired for years to come. However desire only affects resale time and not resale price.
