Hennessey is well known tuning company that made the leap to producing their own car. Since it was introduced as a concept it was labelled the fastest car in the world. At that time they were referring to top speed and suggested that they would be able to go in excess of 270 mph. The Venom GT has now officially been labelled the fastest production car but not for top speed but for a sprint from 0-300 km/h.

The Venom GT takes a simple concept to its limits take a very light well built car and add a very powerful engine. The recipe should result in a very quick car. The Venom GT is based on the lightweight Lotus Elise and uses a LS9, 6.2L, V8 engine that has been fitted with twin turbochargers that produce 1,244 hp.

For the official run the Venom GT must make the sprint in one direction and then make a return run within an hour. The first sprint was done in 13.18 seconds with a 4 mph (6.4 km/h) tailwind. The second run was made in 14.08 seconds with a 6 mph (9.7 km/h) headwind. The average was 13.63 seconds from 0-300 km/h. The record was previously held by the Koenigsegg Agera R with a 0-300 km/h sprint in 14.53 seconds.

They then seemly had some time on their hands and set a record for the fastest run from 0-200 mph. This run is not recognised by Guinness World Records as they only recognise sprints done in km/h. The sprint from 0-200 mph in 14.51. Again the record was previously held by the Koenigsegg Agera R with a 0-200 mph sprint in 17.68 seconds. The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport completes the same run in 22.2 seconds. That is 7.7 seconds slower than the Venom GT.

The Venom GT set the record at the Ellington Airport, southeast of Houston, Texas.
