The current 5-series that is being sold at Stewart Motors is the 6th generation 5 series and was first introduced in Munich in November 2009. It was launched in March 2010. When launched it carried over engine and transmission options from the previous generation. New engine options were introduced in September 2011. This includes the reintroduction of a 2.0L option which puts the 5-series in the lowest tax bracket currently available. The facelift is due this year and will first be seen as a 2014 model as early as July or August 2013.
So the question is should a customer buy the current model?

The disadvantage of buying a model that is due for facelift or model change is that this automatic devalues your purchase. The vehicle loses value the day it drives away from the dealer. It then loses value the day the new model or facelift is launched. That means that car will lose value twice in the same year. Another disadvantage is the possible engine upgrades and model variants that will be made available with the new or facelift model. There is also the possibility of the addition of new technology that will be made available in the facelift or model change.

The advantage in buying the current model is that if the dealer is smart they have dropped the price of the units in stock and put at least a 15% difference between the potential asking price of the new model and the current model. Currently the 520i and 528i are in the $7,000,000-$8,000,000 price range so these cars would need to be between $6,000,000 and $6,500,000 to be a good deal. They would also need to have had the a M package or the highest possible specification as this will help when trying to sell the older model when the new model is on sale.

Autoinfoja's recommendation is to only buy the 528i with M package. Most of the buyers of the used premium market midsize sedans will be between the ages of 25-40 and that will be mostly men. This allows them to buy a premium market car for the price a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. They prefer the premium market cars as they provide great power, performance and the premium markets will get the right response from their peers and onlookers. These buyers will be looking to purchase the sportiest looking models first before settling for the standard models. Buy the sportier model with the M package. If you cannot get that model just wait until the new model gets here later this year.
